AACA has a variety of volunteer opportunities available. We are looking for a commitment of 1 to 2 hours a week for at least 3 to 4 months unless otherwise noted. Knowledge of other languages is often helpful but not necessary unless noted. Volunteer English Tutors needed as soon as possible
Tutor two students in our Automotive Training program in English speaking skills, preferably Fridays from 2-3 here at our AACA offices.
Preference for native English speakers to help with correct pronunciation.
Position needed through August, 2012, if possible.
ESOL Tutors and Conversation Partners
AACA needs tutors to work with beginner or high intermediate level English language learners on writing, reading, listening, and speaking (including pronunciation). Bilingual ability in Chinese is a plus, but is not required for tutorials.
When: Tuesday-Friday mornings (10:30-11:30) and afternoons (1:00-2:00) would be most helpful. Other times may be available as well.
Conversation Group Leaders
Help facilitate casual conversation groups of 3-5 ESOL students.
When: Thursdays, 10:30 – Noon, Ongoing year round with some breaks.
Math Tutors
Opportunity #1 Tutor a diverse group of 3-5 students in a group setting in the fundamentals of math; i.e. very basic math, measurement, and fractions. When: 1st choice- Fridays from 2:00-3:00; 2nd choice- one day per week, M-Th from 2:00-3:00 at Madison Park High School in Roxbury.
Opportunity #2 Help students learn basic algebra and geometry in preparation for the standardized community college admissions test.
When: One day per week, Tuesday-Friday 10:00-11:00AM or 1:30-2:30PM
Fundraiser Gala Volunteers
Volunteers are needed to join the auction committee for AACA’s annual fundraiser gala. Volunteers will assist staff and the committee chair in securing auction items, processing items, and organizing the auction items on the night of the event. Good English and interpersonal skills are required for this task.
When: Time is flexible, 10 hours per week for up to 6 months
