Volunteer Opportunities

Thank you for your interest in volunteering at AACA.

AACA has a variety of volunteer opportunities available. We are looking for a commitment of 1 to 2 hours a week for at least 3 to 4 months unless otherwise noted.  Knowledge of other languages is often helpful but not necessary unless noted.  To apply for any of the volunteer opportunities below, please contact kristan@aaca-boston.org and indicate your availability and which positions you are most interested in.  To apply for a volunteer position not specified below, please fill out the Volunteer Application.  Again, please indicate your weekly availability. The following positions are available at AACA:

ESOL Tutors and Conversation Partners
AACA needs tutors to work with beginner or high intermediate level English language learners on writing, reading, listening, and speaking (including pronunciation).  Bilingual ability in Chinese is a plus, but is not required for tutorials.
When: Tuesday-Friday mornings (10:30-11:30) and afternoons (1:00-2:00) would be most helpful. Other times may be available as well.

ESOL Writing Tutor
Seeking a volunteer, preferably a current college student or someone with strong essay writing skills (native speaker preferred but not required) to work with college bound students who just graduated from AACA’s highest level of ESOL classes. These students expressed an interest in staying together over the summer and working on essay writing skills, reading skills, note taking and general college readiness.
When: 1 afternoon per week, 1 to 3 PM, Tuesday- Friday

Conversation Group Leaders
Help facilitate casual conversation groups of 3-5 ESOL students.
When: Thursdays, 10:30 – Noon. Ongoing year round with some breaks.

Graphic Design
AACA could occasionally use help with designing flyers, brochures, and invitations. This project-based work could be done remotely.

One Time Opportunities
Throughout the year, there are a number of opportunities to volunteer just once. These opportunities might range from helping to plan or set up for a fundraiser to being an usher at an AACA event to doing mock interviews for our job training program students.

These volunteer positions are not paid positions. Thank you for your interest in volunteering at AACA!
