Full time attorney to work in the Asian Outreach/Employment Law Unit. The Asian Outreach/Employment Law Unit works closely with community-based organizations to educate and advocate for the legal rights of indigent clients and in particular, immigrant clients. This position will be responsible for representing victims of domestic violence in family law matters as well as representing clients with housing or employment issues. The attorney will divide his or her time between these areas of law. The attorney will also, conduct outreach/intake activities, provide community legal education, represent individual clients in administrative and court proceedings, and represent community-based client groups. The Attorney may supervise law students and paralegals.
Looking for an attorney with one to three years of experience who is bilingual in Chinese, member of the Massachusetts bar or comity, and who has experience representing Asian immigrants. The position will require working closely with the Asian American community to determine community priorities. Clients are represented in multiple forums, administrative hearings as well as family and probate court, housing court, and state and federal court. An understanding of Asian American history and culture, and experience working with the Asian American community is required, in addition to strong interpersonal skills and commitment to working with low income immigrants.
