Asian American Civic Association
The
Asian American Civic Association (AACA), operating since 1967, provides limited
English speaking and economically disadvantaged people with education, occupational
training and social services enabling them to realize lasting economic self-sufficiency.
AACA
has five major components:
The Workforce Development Center
is recognized as one of Boston's leaders in vocational training for adults. The
agency operates three training programs: office skills, facilities maintenance and automotive repair; workplace education; and job readiness workshops.
The
Education Center offers basic English classes for speakers of other languages;
intermediate English classes to help students prepare for college or enter skills
training;evening ESOL; distance learning, and Mandarin and acculturation classes for business people.
The
Multi-Service Center provides assistance with immigration, housing, health
insurance and primary care, food stamps, social security, home heating oil, income
tax preparation, translation and interpretation, college application and financial
aid forms, and information/referral.
The
biweekly newspaper, Sampan, provides news about community concerns and development,
health, arts and entertainment to the greater Boston Asian community.
The Youth Initiative is developing young leaders for civic engagement, leadership roles, community research action, and personal growth and transformation.
